During the last week, we have been taught some different organizing tools. We tried to facilitate a group brainstorm – who would have known that there where so many different types? Well in the end we made an action plan over the fieldwork in Kenya. Which was really interesting, not only trying to use some of the tools on our own trip, but also realizing how little time we have left before Kenya.
The action plan is a way of controlling a brainstorm process. It begins with a broad brainstorm on all the different ideas to the campaign, next step is to brainstorm on some of the more specific elements of the campaign – like the target group and the strategy. In the end the elements will be more concrete and we ended up with a plan for the way forward. We used a template witch was very nice and gave a good overview.
Of course there is and should be a lot of adjustments to the process, but its a good way to get some new ideas fast.

So in the last couple of days we decided to make a campaign for increasing the European climate adaption money. The next issue will be how to make an effect full campaign. There are already so many things going on, and so many different approaches.
I think that one of the biggest problems in campaigning is how to mobilize people and at the same time educate and show the complexity of the climate issue. Because when we make a campaign, we learn that the most important thing is to have a bad guy and a good guy, and an easy understandable problem and solution. But by doing this whit a really complex matter like the climate changes, we neglect the educational part – which I think is extremely important.
Looking on the different initiatives around the world, you see so many different and cool events. And some have managed to combine events and learning. For example the YES MEN made a fake New York Post where they wrote about the climate changes, and people didn’t know that it wasn’t the real New York Post.

Another way of doing it, could be like the 350.org campaign, where people around the world are creating the 350 sign to illustrate that emission have to get down to 350 parts per million in the nearest further.

In the end our campaign should be focused on the structural level and influencing the decision makers and not primarily the public. Even though a change in the public opinion would create new oppotunities.

Last week revealing news got to our attention, the members of the EU committee have a meeting the 20. Oct. where they will discuss how much money, each country should donate to an adaptation plan. When I talk about the adaptation plan, I mean the strategy of how the poor countries will deal with the problems due to the climate changes, for example the drought.
Unfortunately the EU countries are not planning on spending enough money compared to the damages. Therefore our project will revolve around getting more money on the table at the meeting at Brussels.
Will it be possible to change the minds of the stakeholders?

Welcome to my first blog -so far so good.
This blog will be covering a brand new education in Denmark- global change. The course will not only be an educational experience but it will also involve traveling and making a campaign.
The Cop15 is the primary target and we will through the next 4 month work intense on understanding the climate callenges but also what we can do about it.
In the time being the world- as I se it- is facing some ekstreme changes. Not only do we se a finacial crisis, a food crisis but also a climate crisis, and all of these combined can have great consequenses. The biggest problem is that the people who are the most affekted is not the ones causing the problem.
How do we change this development? It hope to get closer to an answer in the next couple of month.
