Learnings to take with
| September 30, 2009Yesterday we reflected upon the workshop, we did last week at a high school, by looking at challenges and successes. What I experienced is that you can have planned a great workshop, but the materials you need to make it successful do not work. This ended up taking a lot of energy out of the students and us. Therefore next time technical things we even think will work should be checked. So when doing the planning, there has to be made a specific practical checklist. At the same time it would be a good idea to have a plan B. But over all, parts of the workshop did work and it was a great experience. It was also a good way for us as a group and facilitators to learn about each other in practise and how we should work together. One of the things we got out of this, which I see as very important, is that people talk out their needs so we can cooperate better.
To follow up on the workshop discussion, we had a workshop for us to learn about how to be better facilitators. Many thing was learning’s that were already given, but as a new experience I got to observe intensively two facilitators and their body language, and got a very clear view on how easy it is to read if they are fully engaged or not from their movements. I likewise learned that a brainstorm can be categorised in more ways and you can also make it to a fun game!
As coming to the ended of the day we did a campaign action plan which was categorised in different steps with different headlines. What happened was that we ended up getting stocked on the meaning of the different headlines. So we learned even more in practise about participatory approaches, that it is important to understand how people define the meaning of the words you are working with, because they can be perceived very differently.
